About Gage Rogers
Hey guys! My name is Gage Rogers, and I am a freshman Media and Journalism major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am originally from Durham, North Carolina, but I have been a Tar Heel fan my entire life. I attended Durham Academy for high school, where I was the voice of the school’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. Now, here at UNC, I am the play-by-play announcer for the Tar Heel Hockey. In the future, I hope to continue to pursue a career in sports commentary. I’ve had a passion for sports commentary since I was 7 years old, when I began doing play-by-play of the games I was playing on Xbox.
When I am not calling games, you can usually find me in the stands. Since arriving at UNC four months ago, I’ve attended soccer, field hockey, basketball, and volleyball games, as well as a wrestling match. Aside from attending sporting events at UNC, I have also attended MLB, NHL, NFL, and NBA games. One goal of mine is to attend a game at every NHL arena. I have a long way to go as I am currently at 8 out of 32.
Some of my other passions include playing hockey and lacrosse. I have played hockey since I was 6 years old and lacrosse since I was 8 years old. While I’m not playing hockey this year, I aim to play Club Lacrosse here at UNC in the spring. Playing these sports has provided me with some of the best memories of my life. From scoring a game-tying goal with a minute to go in a tournament final in hockey to making the State Championship in lacrosse my senior year, these moments will always stick with me. One of the biggest honors I have ever received was being named captain of the lacrosse team my senior year. This role was something I cherished, as I was always someone who aimed to lead by example on and off the field. Additionally, as a 3-year starter in goal, I understood how important it is to build chemistry in the offseason, so my fellow senior captains organized and led offseason practices. Sports have also provided me with some of my best friends. There is nothing better than a bus ride back home with your teammates after a big win.
